We are proud to partner with the Simons Foundation to run GSMI-NYC, a free mentorship program to help New York City students applying to Master's and PhD programs in the sciences this Fall 2022. This is a locally-based chapter of our international GSMI (Graduate Student Mentorship Initiative).
For GSMI-NYC 2022, we will have a cohort of 10 students in the NYC area, see below for eligibility requirements.

GSMI-NYC Prospective Applicants
Eligibility:

Underrepresented students from the NYC area applying to STEM Master's and PhD programs in Fall 2022

We welcome applications from underrepresented students which include ethnicity, gender, first-generation, child of immigrants, disabilities, identity, low-income, etc.

College senior, post-graduate student, post-baccalaureate students, other applicants in post-Bachelor's positions including those working as research assistants/technician, etc.

NYC area: The prospective GSMI-NYC scholar must be in the NYC area, which includes the five boroughs, Long Island, and universities in the CUNY/SUNY system.

If you are accepted as a GSMI-NYC scholar, you must commit to be an active participant in the program from 9/1/22 - 12/15/22 and will be required to attend an in-person event at the end of the application cycle (December 2022).

If you are not applying to graduate school this Fall 2022, you are not eligible.

**ONLY the following scientific fields are eligible: Astrophysics, Cancer biology, Biochemistry and Biophysics/Structural Biology, Computational Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Genetics, Neurobiology, Neuroscience, Physics, Psychology - Clinical Psychology

Unfortunately, the following students are not eligible:

Students applying to Post-bacs (PREP), PA, MD, MD/PhD, PharmD, Non-STEM PhD programs

Students seeking support on fellowship applications that are not currently applying to PhD programs

Please note: We can only accept ten graduate school applicants for GSMI-NYC. Selection will be based on applicant's need, commitment to a career in the sciences, and match to GSMI-NYC mentors.
If you are being considered for acceptance to the program, you will receive an email by July 10, 2002 with next steps. Acceptances will happen on a rolling basis and we will notify all applicants of their application status once our cohort has been filled.
